There has been a huge amount of horror movies recently trying to ape the old days. Rob Zombie seems to think that he has the monopoly, but in fact he is missing the point, you can’t just Xerox the past, you need to reference it and give us a good movie at the same time,

2001 Maniacs is that movie. It is a proper horror masterpiece, based upon the Hershell Gordon Lewis movie from 1964 ‘2000 Maniacs’, here we have terror mixed with eerie atmosphere and Robert Englund in the main role. It is terrifying and brilliant, you know that the kids are not going to escape the twisted town but you still think they might…No! They get killed in awesome ways.

Add to this making of documentaries and commentaries and you have one of the years best horror treats. Eli Roth, we love you.
